Hello all!

I was just wondering what you all think about voices in your writing? Do you tend to go for a non-character narrator, or a first-person voice, or several different first-person voices, or what? How do you feel about other ways of telling a story, such as diary entries, letters, and so on? If you use various different methods or voices, how do you decide which is most appropriate for a given story?

The recent ghost story notwithstanding, I tend to write generally in the third person, though I have used monologues and first person on occasion. I started something off using snippets of official and newspaper reports, tapes, diaries etc but never really got beyond the first draft of the first part (I think that's hidden away on [livejournal.com profile] just_writing somewhere).

I used to write non-character narrator but increasingly recently I've been finding it easier to write in first-person. Probably something to do with assuming the role of the narrator and using their voice to tell the story.
